Holidays are coming! The festive Christmas mood fills the air, making this the perfect time to showcase a selection of freshly made Christmas greeting cards by Ukrainian digital artist and illustrator Maryna Solomennykova for the YammArts artistic workshop. Enjoy the elaborate character art filled with the magic and fun of winter holidays.

At the initial stage of the creative process, the artist worked on sketches featuring a bunch of characters: adults, kids, and animals. Here’s a glance at some sketching probes to visualize the ideas. Then the sketches transformed into polished character art concepts, and the decision about the bright color palette was made.

Here’s what the effort results in. The set of Christmas cards features cute children and their little dog singing a carol, a cheerful Christmas goat dancing, and a group of carolers of different ages coming from one home to another to bring good cheer and best wishes. The greeting cards’ details are inspired by Ukrainian Christmas traditions and the artist’s warm memories of how winter holidays were celebrated in childhood.

It’s easy to spend a lot of time examining the illustrator’s sophisticated work on details, from characters’ outfits to the environment and festive Christmas attributes. You can almost hear them singing!
